SYNOPSIS:
Maskandi is a classic Zulu folk music genre popularized by KZN rooted artists such as Phuzekhemisi and Moses Mchunu. In recent years, new life has been blown into the genre by younger artists who have taken the sound and made it their own by mixing it with contemporary sounds like hiphop and Amapiano. Future Maskandi is a 13-part studio-based host, insert and music video driven variety show which will introduce the world to the backstories and music of new entrants into the Maskandi Music space, while also showcasing the works of past legends who have made it one of the top performing genres in South Africa to date.
