BRAND NEW ACQUISITION

SAMBA LADIES casts a defying eye over the role of women in samba, where historically songs about the Amélias, cabrochas, the mulatto women were sung under the male point of view. Beyond the stereotypes, the project presents a broad view of the women participation within that culture, recognizing that the feminine strength boosted and still contributes for the samba to be the most representative Brazilian popular rhythm. Many of them are anonymous, others are great ladies that marked their names in this Pantheon: Clara Nunes, Beth Carvalho, Leci Brandão, Dona Ivone Lara, among so many others who still make samba the largest Brazilian cultural manifestation.

Whether as a passista, a queen, a muse or Carnival worker, women highlight their protagonism, giving samba not only their image, but also their entrepreneurial spirit, creativity and inspiring nature. This generous, thought-provoking and sometimes transgressive energy is the film's dominant focus.
